10. Why are you applying for financial assistance? (150 word minimum)
I am applying for financial assistance because I am having a financial hardship at this point in my life. I am helping my brother take care of his kid, while living at my parent's house with my wife. My mother is fighting cancer and my dad broke his neck two summers ago so all of our money goes to helping them out. My wife also works full time as a sales associate. I am looking for a way to get more training in a specialized area in IT. When I was attending college in San Diego I had an unfortunate disease that required me to have both of my hips totally replaced at the age of 23 so I was unable to finish the school track that I was on. I moved back home to have this surgery and then moved back to San Diego to try and finish school. I was still unable to do this due to family problems back at home so I decided to move back to Virginia and help out the family.
11. How will taking this certificate program achieve your career goals? (150 word minimum)
I am looking for a position that aligns with my interests in the IT field. I have not had the chance to receive formal training in this field. My prior job history relies heavily on IT knowledge and would complement my abilities. I have previously worked for 3 different companies that required technical skills knowledge of building websites, applications and writing code. The positions I worked in were as a Creative Marketing Manager in which I was moved to an Executive Assistant in that position. Then I was a content marketing manager for a real estate franchise in which I built over 5 different website platforms including CRM campaigns and training modules to help their company build leads and convert leads into sales. My latest job was as the Director of Marketing and Customer Service for a holding company named Asian Restaurants International Development and Management (ARIDM.COM). This was an exceptional job that required travel across the mid-Atlantic region of North America's East Coast. Unfortunately I came in one day to a letter that said they were no longer able to keep the company open due to lack of funds. This course will give me a chance to obtain real skills in a field that I am passionate about and be able to put real qualifications on my resumé . At this point I can only mention that I have worked in these fields in a position where it was not the main requirement.
